3037757855_530d496226Have you ever wanted to design your own fabric and then use it for one of your projects.

If you didn’t already know this, now you can design your own fabric and have it printed on high quality 100% cotton from Moda. The swatches shown here are actually created by individuals like you and me.

These particular pieces are the first for a weekly contest and the winner receives 5 yards of either their fabric or other fabrics that are for sale in the future. This is a 100 dollar prize. The other contestants will receive sample fabric, as a parting gift. Which ever fabric is chosen as the winner for the week, can be purchase the following week.

Now to introduce Spoonflower. It is a site that helps you get your design onto fabric. What you do is save your design that youv’e created in a TIF, JPG, PNG, GIF. File must be less than 25MB. You set up your resolution, upload your design to Spoonflower. You can center your design on the fabric or have Spoonflower place the design in a basic repeat, half-step repeat, or a half-brick repeat. They have information regarding colors and a few quick tips regarding colors. There is so much too absorb on their site, you must go to it. They even have detailed information for photoshop users on color notes and if your not a photoshop user, well they have tips and free tools for creating digital fabric designs. Go to my sidebar to visit and possibly become a member. There is a FLICKR site too.

You can explore all the members designs. The amount of people that use Spoonflower for their projects is unbelievable. You can see their items on Etsy. Spoonflower has hit the latest issues of Craft magazine and Stitch (new mag published by Quilting Arts). I found out about creating your own fabric through my sister who is an artist. She sent me Photojojo a DIY-photography newsletter and they had a blurb about Spoonflower.

Pricing is very reasonable; 4 x 4 square is 5.00, fat quarter is 11.00 and a yard is 18.00.

I’ve been wanting to write about Spoonflower since I signed up to be a member, its just finding the time to read and write about it. I still have sew much to absorb. Hopefully I will have a design on there, but finding the time!!!!

Happy Birthday Michelle – Sorry for the mishap

11/18/2008 · Leave a Comment

First of all I would like to wish Michelle a BIG Happy 22nd Birthday and sorry for the mishap.

We bought our daughter a 32 in flat screen tv from Wal-Mart over the week-end. Had to run to another store because ours didn’t have the one with the DVD player. So off we went, drove out of our way, got it home and wrapped it up in Christmas paper.

It was opened up while Mom and Dad were at work and put together. A telephone call came – Mom it doesn’t play the cable channels. It has to Michelle. I’ll get back to you Mom. Ring, ring. Cable works Mom, but this tv has been used. How do you come to that Michelle. It has a DVD in it of a wedding. Its a copy. I had to do some checks and tried to put a DVD in it and there was already one in it. Thought it was one from the mfg, but it wasn’t. Okay Michelle I’ll take it back. Both hung up. Were did I put the receipt. Another call to Michelle, you gotta find the receipt, here are the two places to look. Found!

Call Best Buy, they match prices. Decided to purchase the same brand that our son bought us for our Christmas present that we got while we were shopping for Michelles – gee were we sending brain waves to each other? Wal-Mart internet is cheaper than store, but Best Buy is even cheaper. Get home, take the boxed back up to the store. Get the refund and off to Best Buy. There all done.

I am not done with Wal-Mart because this is the second purchase where the item we bought was used. The first item was a sorta expensive vacuum for our son’s new place. We go take it home so we can put it together. Guess what, it had soot all in the inside and missing pieces. We find some paper in the box – a hotel bought it and returned it. Can you believe that. Makes me wonder about the snowblower I bought last year that I returned up-opened. Was that returned, the box was in bad shape. Even the frig we bought our son, last one in the store, was that returned? No complaints on it, so maybe we got lucky there.

So in closing, don’t buy major items from Wal-Mart. You don’t know what you are getting. Second don’t buy a Polaroid flat screen tv with DVD player. I read a bunch of reviews – the DVD dies within 2-3 months and you have to contact Polaroid to get a replacement. Then you have to switch it out.

At least we got a better one and was cheaper than Wal-Mart – what happened to lower prices Wal-Mart? Best Buy did try to sell us additional items, but I called son and asked him if it was necessary to have the “monster” cables. He said no cause we didn’t have a cable box. The guy at the store said go to the cable company and get a box and then the monster cables, will bring in better picture. I’m not going to pay more for just a cable box. Then a surge protector. She has one currently, but Bob is going to buy a couple for Christmas for each of us. Thing is, the kind to get runs 80 bucks a piece. He plans on looking for ones that run 60 bucks. Lastly, Best Buy tried to sell this box were you can go on the internet and order movies, any type and even tv shows. Costs 200 bucks. Its a neat concept, but not interested. I thought Best Buy pushed Nexflix guess that went down the tubes. And I won’t ever order from them again after what they did.

Now to wait for the little one to come home and put her tv together and learn how to hook her computer to the tv so she can play DVDs.
